You should not be afraid of x-rays anymore – nowadays x-ray machines are extremely fast and the radiation is microscopic. Without x-ray images even the best dentist can see only about 50% of the tooth; the remaining 50% are covered by gums and bone.
Dental x-rays are necessary:
- for diagnostics and treatment of caries;
- for treatment of dental roots canals;
- in dental surgery, prosthetics, implantation;
- for orthodontic treatment.
Only a part of the stomatological procedures are mentioned above, which cannot be qualitatively performed without good x-ray images. For example, none of the other diagnostic methods are capable of detecting if the jaw bone volume is sufficient for immediate placement of the implant, or additional procedures are necessary.
In cases when the problem is with one tooth, the dentist refers to so- called small x-rays, which capture one tooth. For more severe procedures, panoramic x-rays can be performed, which allow for the capture of all the jaw. In such an image, the position of teeth can be seen, bone can be evaluated, results of previous procedures can be evaluated and corrections can be made, if necessary.
In Dental Art Clinic, we work with small Kodak CS 2200 x-ray machine and panoramic x-ray machine Carestream 8100. The image is ready immediately after the procedure. It is easy to store and available also as digital file; it is also possible to use it in the specific modelling software. X-rays allow careful planning of implant placement and other surgeries.
Kodak CS 2200 x-ray machine is made in the USA, Carestream 8100 – in France. Both x-ray machines not only conform to strict regulations for medical devices, but also contain the newest technologies of x-ray imaging.
These machines provide high resolution images for the doctors, which are necessary for precise work. It guarantees minimal radiation for the patients. For example, to take a full panoramic image, x-ray machine needs only 10 seconds. Dose of radiation patient receives during such procedure is equivalent to the radiation received within 2 h spent at the computer monitor or TV. Meanwhile in 3 hours on a plane person, receives 40 times more radiation.
Dental x-rays are allowed for pregnant women over 20 weeks into their pregnancy. Our x-ray examination is so mild, you shouldn’t be scared and should use them for more effective restoration of dental health.
